Jean is a writer, educator and historian. The McDowell County region is the source of much of her fiction and nonfiction. The Woman's Commission named Jean West Virginia's Woman of the Year in Arts in 2000. And, her work for drama was commemorated when she was awarded the West Virginia Fellowship for Playwriting in 2001. Jean still lives in the home her parents built in 1947 on Main Street in Kimball, WV.
